ABOUT MK STOREHOUSE

PLEASE NOTE FOR THIS TERM, OUR DATES ARE:
TUESDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2024 - THURSDAY 12TH DECEMBER.
WE WILL BE CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS, EASTER & SUMMER HOLIDAYS (with the exception of our Uniform Event) BUT WILL REMAIN OPEN DURING HALF TERMS.

​MK Storehouse has been setup by the Grand Union Vineyard Church in Milton Keynes.

Who are MK Storehouse and why do we exist?
It’s a shocking fact that today in our city 1 in 4 children are living below the poverty line and in some areas this climbs to 40%! Poverty is widespread and affecting everything from physical, emotional and mental health and many people are struggling to pay for the essentials they and/or their family need.

At MK Storehouse we aim to ensure that any person struggling financially in Milton Keynes is given good, free, quality clothing. It feels like a simple thing, but when we do this we notice time and again how it gives our guests confidence and even more importantly they feel valued.

More than just clothes...
..As well as this, at MK Storehouse we want to meet people where they are at, offering them a friendly ear or someone to talk to, all in a safe and warm environment. We also aim to signpost people to other agencies, who we are in close partnership with, who can help those who want it with other issues they may be struggling with, like debt or addiction, helping them take a step toward improving and changing their situation long term.

Who do we provide clothing to?
We provide donated clothing for adults and for children of school age upwards free of charge to families and individuals who are struggling financially and have been referred to us. 

Annual Uniform Event:
Every year, we hold a free uniform recycle event during the summer holidays.  This event is open to all and no referrals are needed. During the last event, we provided basic uniform items for over 400 Milton Keynes children.  Our wish is to see no families worried that they cannot afford expensive uniforms as required by school policies and no child bullied for not having the correct clothing.  We hold stock of uniform year round and will always assist those needing items if we can.  Please get in contact for any uniform requirements using the form at the bottom of the page.

How Can I Get Involved?
1) DONATE money
People often think of clothing as that is the main thing we need (which of course, is essential) but this is generally well serviced. Actually, one of the largest needs we have at the moment is for vitals funds to keep the charity running and reach the hundreds of men, women and children we do every year. In fact, Community Foundation have just released a report highlighting that the number of children living in poverty in Milton Keynes has increased from 1 in 5 to 1 in 4! This breaks our hearts and shows us the need is bigger than ever.

So, how do we reach more people? Well, we did some research and discovered that 1/3 of our guests come from the MK6 area. As a result of this, we are planning on opening a site in Netherfield to reach more people, especially those who can't travel easily.

Will you help us reach so many more of these children, families and adults struggling to support themselves? Here are some ideas on how you could help.​
  • Sponsored runs/ walks/ bike rides
  • Cake sales
  • Dress down Fridays
  • Music events

Are you a corporate? There are specific things that we need like computers, databases, a van etc. Could you contribute financially or sponsor some of these projects? Can we be your charity partner of the year?

2) DONATE clothing
Donation sessions are at the storehouse on Tuesday mornings between 10:00am and 12:00pm, term time only.  Thank you.

3) DONATE time
We have sessions for clothes sorting, general tidying and cleaning of the building. We also sometimes need people with large cars and strong muscles to help us move donations around. Do get in touch if you'd like to be notified when these are taking place and what you would be happy doing.

How Do I Refer?
If you are a local authority, charity, faith organisation or if you are a professional working in care, health or education, you can refer to MK Storehouse individuals or families in need who you have come into contact with. If you wish to refer anyone then please complete the online referral form at the bottom of this page.  Once the form is received, we will contact either yourself or your client with the next steps.

How Do Get I Referred? 
​If you wish to be referred to the MK Storehouse for clothing then this can be done by speaking with any of the following;
​
  • A professional working in a local authority
  • A manager from a registered Charity
  • Faith organisation managers or staff
  • Your GP/Doctor
  • Professionals working in care, health or education
If they are unsure of how to refer, please ask them to contact us via the contact form below, using their company/ charity email address.

What happens to donations that can't be used?
Where there is a need, we sometimes pass on donated clothing to these charities and agencies. Most of the clothing we pass on goes to those in need in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, although we do sometimes send clothing further afield. Clothes that are not suitable for MK Storehouse's use are recycled and sometimes we may receive payment for the recycled items. All money received from recycling is paid straight to MK Storehouse, a not-for-profit organisation.
